The desire to carve figures in stone became rooted in Fred Whitman when he learned how to carve wax teeth in dental school. In 2002 he took on sculpture full-time. These figurative stone carvings express his fascination with the miracles of nature, and the beauty of the human form. Fred’s works are almost entirely carved by hand, starting with hammers and chisels, and finishing with sandpaper and tiny dental tools.
