Christine Apostolina Beirne Painter
Southwest Dreamin 2A
Christine Apostolina Beirne, “Southwest Dreamin’ 2A” – 30×30 oil with cold wax medium on cradled board.
My extensive travels through national forests, parks, preserves as well as the California coastline inspire my work.
I explore light, shadow and sound with color and texture on a hard surface that allows me to respond to my environment with a physicality that is imprinted, built up or scratched into the surface.
Many times, I paint plein air and use small sketches to inspire larger works, abstracting shapes and employing textures that hint at – but don’t necessarily represent a space in the physical world.
I recently went on a painting trip to the high Sierra’s. I planned to paint plein air as well as explore other techniques in my motorhome. Before I left, some well-meaning friends said things like: have fun! Enjoy! How I envy you!Read More
