Taking Small Steps for Big Impact by Mary Neville

Do you ever get so bogged down in the big stuff that you forget that one small step starts the journey of a thousand miles? I am currently reading a book about Kaizen. The Japanese philosophy of taking the smallest possible step that you can take to move you incrementally toward your goal.

As an artist, and especially an abstract painter, I have to move at the pace the painting wants to. If I rush, then one of two things happen, Either the painting looks forced or I end up losing what I like. Both of which makes me nuts. By practicing the Kaizen Method, I am better off taking very small steps every day. Just going into the studio to look and listen. If all I do is make one small mark, so tiny that I may be the only one that sees it.  I then consider that mission accomplished! I do have days that everything falls into place and I make great headway with broad strokes. But mostly it’s the little steps that keep me moving toward the goal. What small steps do you take?
