ARTIST STATEMENT

Marc grew up in Ojai with Art around him. Being introduced to great art by his mother, Nancy Whitman, Marc developed his sense of beauty at a very young age. Marc pursued Art as an Architect for most of his life where his award winning designs can be seen throughout Ojai and Ventura County. He hand draws and drafts his Architectural projects, thus developing his draftsman skills his entire life. “Sketching and drawing has always been my strong suit” says Marc. Marc also explores his Art through Oil Painting. “You go through the same creative process in Architecture as in Painting, however in painting there is more of a direct connection to the creative source.” Over the last several years he has been training as a naturalist painter. He has studied with Dan Pinkham, Dan Schultz, and Ignat Ignatov . Marc spent this past summer in Florence Italy studying at the Florence Academy of Art. However, his most influential mentor has been Jeremy Lipking in Agoura, where he spent a year and a half under his tutelage. “I

love Jeremy’s romantic sensuality, he has taught me the fineness in Fine Art” Marc has been focusing his work mainly on portraits and figures but also enjoys landscapes. “Portraits and Figures are the most difficult thing to paint but I think the human form is one of the most beautiful things in Nature.” Marcs dream is to travel the world with his

wife Julia painting and creating. “ I have an addiction to create beauty, Painting is a perfect fix.”

Studies of the Topa Topa Bluffs in Ojai

Growing up in the Upper Ojai I was always mesmerized by the Topa Topa Bluffs The Bluffs are a magnificent sculpture created by nature . The ever changing light creating shadows and reveling it details and colors . As a boy growing up, my family home sat at the base of the bluffs in Bear Canyon. We had no neighbors between us and the Los Padres Forrest. My brother and myself would often hike up to and on top of the Bluffs from our home . Now as a artist I continue to explore the Bluffs in its many designs ,colors . Its bold shapes creating ever changing shadows leads me to designs that can be translated into Art . This exploration can lead to dramatic shapes and designs and playing with the dynamics of color . I don't know where this exploration my lead me but I am enjoying the Journey.
