Andrea Haffner: Reflections

Updated: May 29

Someone recently told me that this piece looked to her like "the beginning of time." That was very satisfying to hear.

The materials in this piece include eucalyptus stems, a stone from the ocean, the decomposed husk of a tomatillo, as well as small segments of lunaria pod frames in the inner circle. In creating my pieces I first work on a layout on my design table, moving and changing things until they feel right. I then embed each element into the steel frame using an extensive layering process with resins and pigments. In creating this piece, transferring the individual small parts in the inner circle from the layout to the actual piece was a big, ultimately satisfying challenge.

This wall hanging and more will be showing in my studio for the June Second Saturday Tour. I hope you'll come see my space and process!
