The Spirit of Color: How Art Can Uplift Your Home and Your Soul
By Douglas Teiger | www.teigerart.com
When you walk into a room, what do you feel? Is it calm, alive, contemplative, inspired? Often, it's not the furniture or the layout that speaks first—it’s the color. Color has a powerful, almost invisible way of shifting the energy in a space and, in turn, shifting something inside of us. That’s the essence of what I aim to create in my art.
There are many kinds of art in the world. Some pieces provoke, challenge, or demand a reaction. My work moves in the opposite direction. I create art as a spiritual offering—a portal inward. Each piece is meant to reconnect you with the quieter, deeper parts of yourself. It’s not about what the art says. It’s about what it opens up inside of you.
My latest body of work, Deconstructing Color, was born from this desire to explore how color interacts and transforms not just space—but the spirit. I take my abstract oil paintings, cut them into strips and shards, and reassemble them into dynamic new compositions. The fragments, already rich with layers of energy and meditation, become something entirely new—pulsing with tension, harmony, and subtle emotion.
Through this process, I discovered that color is more than visual—it’s vibrational. A bold slash of cadmium red can awaken; a soft wash of ultramarine can soothe. Juxtaposing warm and cool tones creates a kind of visual breath. These interactions invite you to pause, feel, and simply be—which, in today’s world, is a radical act of self-care.
The right piece of art in your home can become an anchor, a tuning fork for your own well-being. It doesn’t shout. It resonates. And when art resonates, it elevates the energy of a space—and everyone in it.
If you’re seeking more than decoration—if you’re seeking presence, connection, and a deeper sense of beauty—I invite you to explore the power of color. Not just with your eyes, but with your heart.
Because when art is created with intention, it does more than fill a wall. It uplifts the soul.
