Valerie Freeman

Award winning Ojai Studio Artist, Valerie Freeman’s organic expressive approach to creating her spontaneous, hand built, once-fired, ceramic sculptures and urns; embrace gestural natural movement and are enhanced with her secret lustre extraordinary opulent colorful glazes. Several of her works incorporate California Thomas Fire ashes and casts from local fruit and flora.
Inspired by life, world travels, a European heritage with Neanderthal DNA; her works are experimental and ever changing. She earned her BFA from Pratt Institute on scholarship and studied ceramics with Allison Newsome at the Beatrice Wood Center for the Arts.
Freeman is a recipient of numerous prestigious awards, grants and commissions including the Municipal Arts Society of NYC, Ford Foundation and her works are collected and exhibited internationally.
