I’ve been challenging myself with ‘speed’ painting as an exercise to improve my drawing skills, explore color pallets and experiment with a variety of techniques. About a month ago I began painting portraits with a time limit of 3 hours. Most of them are about 2 hours, but some have crept up to a bit over 3. My traditional portraits run into the 30-40 hour range, which makes this practice quite an adventure, but I do find it rewarding. The greatest challenge is knowing when to put down the brush and walk away.
