Gayel Childress: My Adventure in Owens Valley

My adventure, painting in the Owens Valley, California is where I learned the history of the internment camp named Manzanar. This painting was painted in Manzanar, the internment camp for the Japanese Americans during World War II. The first death in the camp was that of a baby. His name was Jerry. I painted this in the memory of baby Jerry in hopes that we will have no more interment camps  again in our American history.

In the painting, you will see the Sierra mountains in the background, the guard towers and memorial monument, and in Asian like lettering the name "Baby Jerry".

The painting is multi-media, 20" x 16". It will be exhibited at the Beatrice Wood Center for the Arts in Upper Ojai, January 17 - March 17. The gallery is open from 11am-4pm Fridays through Sundays.
