I recently spent five days in Arroyo Grande at a wonderful artist workshop at Willow Pond trying my hand at abstraction - building a sense of narrative with textures, artifacts, creating imagined or real histories and stories from found materials and my own history. It was such a wonderful reach for me as a figurative painter and it made me approach a blank canvas in a new way. This small piece on cradled board measures only 6 x 6 inches but holds an entire ocean of elements and textures and colors.
What a treat it was to focus for five days straight on creating and sharing ideas with fellow artists from all over the country, in a stunning big barn amidst fields and hills just south of San Luis Obispo.
