Marie McKenzie: Patterns and Motion

Updated: Feb 29

Guided by time spent in nature and with a personal interest in pattern and motion, I respond. Through oil and watercolor painting, fleeting memories of my travels appear and then soften as I welcome the intuitive and spontaneous visions of an undiscovered world.

In my wood shop, the feeling of wood fibers bending beneath my hands is a joy. If the wood responds to steam, these experiments may become new forms, for the living salvaged wood offers unpredictable results. I view all of my creative processes as acts of meditation. In my most recent work, I am inspired by kelp and our coastal ecosystems.
