Rex entered the art world as a full-time artist in 2004. For 34 years prior that he was an educator and coach at Ventura High School.Â
Rex’s whimsical and lyrical style - which dominated his earlier artwork - evolved primarily from the use of blind continuous line drawings. Art would begin on location,  and after some alteration, painted in his studio.
Rex maintains a strong compositional focus in all of his artwork, frequently in the direction of abstract realism  The variety and range in his work can be seen in the Remax Building in Ventura which houses a permanent collection completed in 2005. Watercolors are avoided by many artists because it’s difficult to control. Rex has worked almost exclusively with watercolors for 30  years, and is willing to work with anyone interested in mastering watercolor techniques.
