Having grown up in Southern California, where the weather is nice all year long, it was natural to enjoy the outdoors. I spent a lot of time in my VW bug driving up and down the roads I thought would lead me to my dreams.
To be honest, I wanted to be someone who was a lot cooler than I actually was, but I didn't stop chasing those dreams. Indeed, I was The Pretender. I wanted to know what would become of the changes that love would bring.
Jackson Browne's songs were my guiding light. They spoke of the trials and tribulations that I was living through. Yet, all the while they echoed the hope that someday I would hot-wire reality - that I would find a girl who showed me what laughter meant.
