I just got back from a post tour vacation--a roadtrip in our Airstream to Valley of Fire. Passing Las Vegas, we turned off the highway and brilliant red oxide mounds started emerging from the barren desert. As we passed through the red canyons we were surrounded by a gigantic art gallery of figures painted by the stone's patina. We were surrounded by imagined giant stone creatures. The ancient petroglyphs made by the native American population were dwarfed by the art that nature had made. I can hardly wait to dig into this world of art and add a little of my own creation--sadly I will only have a linen canvas, not one of stone.
