Visit to the Optometrist’s Office

My artwork covers a wide variety of subjects. When visiting the optometrist office I was enchanted by the office instruments. From a photograph I rendered a blind continuous line drawing, capturing as much of the detail as possible. The goal is to arrive at an interesting drawing, close to reality, but definitely altered. An approach to drawing used in the classroom to teach students - in this case high school students - to begin to REALLY see. Carefully see reality and than transfer careful seeing to the paper on which they are drawing. Until one gets accomplished at this type of drawing it is quite a wild ride. One does NOT look at the paper, but rather trusting their observation to record something close to the subject they are seeing. They were not required to paint their “drawing”. I, on the other hand, developed an artwork style that has become in signature style. I have a studio full of drawings and paintings that began with careful blind continuous line. Painting one’s drawings is my personal “wild ride”.
