OSA artitsts will be showcasing their interpretation of the Taft Gardens and Nature Preserve, a 200+ acre botanical garden located on the outskirts of the Ojai Valley, in a show at the Studio Channel Islands Art Center in Camarillo. The show will open with a public reception on Sat June 6, 3-5 pm and continue through July 25.
Invited to visit and envision the Taft Gardens in their own visual interpretation, some four dozen OSA artists spent time indiviually and in groups exploring the nooks and crannies of the gardens as well as the vistas, the ancient groves of native flora and the evocative gardens featuring Australian and South African plant species. The gardens were founded in 1982 by John Taft, now 90 years old, who still lives on site and wanted to bring foreign plants from similar climates to the Ojai Valley. The artists have been working for months exploring the gardens and will bring them to life in sculpture, paint, fiber arts, jewelry and mixed media in this two month long exhibition.
