My paintings are usually based on travel--the recent portraits of women are traditional birth attendants delivering babies for nomads in Niger. They were trained by the Nomad Foundation, an organization I founded in 1997. When I am home I often paint native plants or flowers in my garden. The new work is painted on rusted metal panels, an intriguing combination of rough (rust) and delicate (flower petals).
