Martha Moran

Sculpture

ARTIST STATEMENT

When she first moved to Ojai, Martha loved coming upon rock stacks out on the trails. But they were all monochromatic sandstone. She began building her own stacks, mixing in colorful agate, petrified wood, obsidian as well as slag glass, shrapnel and copper. Her work has expanded and evolved to include fountains, furniture and Art Showers. New work includes her Landscapes in Stone series and large sculptures carved from Styrofoam then coated with concrete that address sociopolitical concerns, such as the warming of the oceans, the plight of migrant children, the repeal of Roe v Wade and other issues.

A filmmaker as well as an artist, Martha worked in children’s TV and has degrees from the College of Creative Studies at UCSB and UCLA Film School. Martha’s Strawberry Fields Forever…and Citrus and Avocados Too won the Best Sculpture and People’s Choice Award at the 2022 Santa Paula Museum’s Art About Agriculture exhibition. She has public art on view in Agoura Hills and Banning and has exhibited at the Maloof Foundation, SLOMA, Beatrice Wood Center for the Arts, Ventura County Museum, and the California Sculpture Symposium in Cambria.
