During August, I entered the Ventura County Fair in the Professional Arts, Printmaking category. I was happy to see my two entries both get accepted. I went down to the Fair on opening day to see if by any chance I might have won an award for my work. It took me a while to see where my work had been hung in the gallery, but when I found my pieces, I did not see any indication of winning an award. Well, maybe next year.
However, when I congratulated my friend and colleague, Linda Taylor, for winning both First Place and Third, I asked her if she knew who received Second. She replied, "You did!" The piece that won is a monotype with chine colle titled, "Memories in the Shade." The staff had forgotten to put out my Second Place ribbon when the work was hung. What a wonderful surprise! Unfortunately, the people who came to the Fair did not know I had won, but it is certainly gratifying to have found out, even if it was after the Fair had closed.
