ARTIST STATEMENT
When I was a freshman dental student I learned that I was good at carving teeth. One day I went down to visit the Chicago Institute of Art, where my mother, Nancy Whitman, had studied. That's where I saw a figure of a young boy carved in marble and said to myself,"I want to do that someday."
One thing let to another and I found myself at Art City, in Ventura, where a small group of experienced carvers allowed me to absorb the basics of composition and tool usage.
My roots are in science and creation. Mother Nature is my muse. The miracles of life amaze me everyday, from the simple flower, to the conplexity and symmetry of the human face.
