ARTIST STATEMENT

I spent 16 active years as a photojournalist in NYC, first working for the NY Times, expanding to CBS, NBC, PBS, magazines and corporations. Moving to a quieter Ojai, I began photographing the western landscape, experimenting with different mediums.

Polaroid and negative transfers enchanted me with the painterly way it transformed each print. Archival sepia prints of the west reminded me of old postcards and led to photographing flowers on a light box as I rediscovered color. All of these influence my photographs, occasionally in combination. A life lived as a photographer, from photojournalist to fine art.

OSA Artist's Museum Show Reception This Friday!

Always great fun! The reception is August 21 at the Ojai Valley Museum from 5 to 7pm, and the show is up until October 12. I'll be there, pouring drinks and enjoying the food when I'm not at the bar. The exhibit "As We See It" is an amazing one and worth spending time looking at each and the comments next to each art piece.

Music, East End/Upper Ojai Studio Tour and Gallery Shows in Ojai!

I’m in two of the events! Always fun when a family brings children with them. Many just look but some ask questions, often funny, but sweet to see their curiosity and ask them questions about their favorite. Here’s a photograph from last October’s OSA Tour. Many of the photos from then are in blancheSylvia’s gallery on Flowers, across from the festival, but many new ones are in my studio. Signs are out and maps are online so enjoy a day of art in the mountains and valleys of Ojai. Free and welcoming...
